welcome to community clinic

A community SPACE FOR
SHIATSU SESSIONS & SHIATSU YIN YOGa

We offer Shiatsu to the community in a communal setting one Friday evening a month, followed by a Shiatsu Yin Yoga class

A collaboration between Studio Shiatsu, Brunswick Shiatsu and friends!

  • One of our primary goals is to make Shiatsu accessible to all, so that everyone can experience its benefits.

This 60 minute Shiatsu session takes place in a shared space where multiple individuals receive treatment simultaneously.

The communal setting fosters a sense of community, where comfort and support can be found in sharing the therapeutic experience with others.

We are mindful of maintaining individual privacy and comfort; there is ample space between futons, and clients remain fully clothed during the session.

Each session is tailored to your individual needs by one of our qualified Shiatsu Therapists.

If this is your first time receiving Shiatsu, you can read more about it here.

  • A 90 minute Yin Yoga class combining restorative Yin Yoga shapes with Shiatsu touch (acupressure points, holding and massage) - for a deeply restful experience.

Yin postures are held for 4-5 minutes. Our Shiatsu Therapists will move around the room, and while resting in the shape you will receive a short amount of Shiatsu bodywork to deeper support the meridian opening.

These meridian-focused sequences are inspired by the energetics of the seasons and designed to balance the elements and energy flow in your body.

The combination of slow stretches and the calming touch of Shiatsu offers a space for deep relaxation; improving circulation and inviting awareness to the whole body.

    We welcome all abilities/bodies.

    Our facilitator for October:

    Jana Higgs

Dip. of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies
    Adv. Diploma of Yoga Teaching

I am a professional within the wellness industry, holding a Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies and an Advanced Diploma of Yoga.

It was in 2015 when I started working in the holistic wellness industry as a Yoga and Meditation facilitator, after graduating from an Advanced Diploma Of Yoga in 2013-2014.

My personal enquiry and practice of yoga began in 2007 after sustaining chronic back pain from an old injury and profession at that time. During this time I also utilized the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine to assist with my general health and found curiosity in its wonders.

This personal practice became an interest and passion. Leading me to India to delve deeper into practice, gaining an understanding of the wisdom and teachings of the physical and energetic forms of the body. I learnt how to care for my physical misalignments, and discovered deeper work that happens on the mental and emotional body. When integrating Asana (postures), pranayama (breath) and meditation into my daily life I found great benefits and awareness to my physical, mental and emotional being. Which directed me to do my teacher training here in Melbourne. My training gave me an invitation to share my knowledge, experience and passion with students to assist their health and wellbeing. Also give guides support themselves through their personal practice.

I have taught and held workshops in England and Melbourne and continued furthering my education and training. I have a keen interest in philosophy and mythology that I enjoy integrating into all styles of teaching.

I graduated from the Australian Shiatsu College in 2022. Which provided me with knowledge to go deeper into the Five elements and weave throughout classes I teach.

Shiatsu for me has been a direct source of communication with others for their health and wellbeing. To tune in, listen and feel into the client's body. An innate way of being present with others and understanding what their body needs in the present moment. Within Shiatsu I incorporate the use of Palm Palpating, Acupoints, Stretches, Sotai, Barefoot shiatsu, Classical Shiatsu (finger pressure) along Meridian lines. Addressing the physical and energetic patterns, to allow the body to restore and balance Qi, find rejuvenation and release and have the ability to let go and return to the body.

I am incredibly passionate about Shiatsu and a true believer in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Five Elements gave me a beautiful understanding of aligning the body with Earth’s natural rhythm. I weave that connection throughout the treatment, and in lifestyle and dietary advice.

Which has now been integrated with Shiatsu Yin’s. I have been facilitating these immersions in the North East of Melbourne for the past year. My passion is fueled even more as I get to integrate my two paths of Yoga and Shiatsu, and weave the elegant nature of the cycles in the thematics of the class, while our clients receive the yummy Shiatsu Touch.

My goal is to bring people back into connecting with their bodies. Provide a space where people feel seen, heard and supported in their journey back to health and wellbeing.

Part of my ongoing professional development I have recently embarked in Trauma informed care. Other interests of mine are Chronic and Mental Health support.

This is a LGBTQIA+ friendly space and I celerate people of all different backgrounds, genders, sexualities and cultures.
